January 12, 2019 (Saturday) – The Northwoods Harness Club presents its 33rd Annual Sleigh and Cutter Rally at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center.  Leave 8:30 am – Van $7.  Call Margie: 715-479-2028 to make your reservation.
The past will come alive with 1800s-era costumed drivers and their passengers riding in antique sleighs drawn by beautiful horses from the region.  They come as far as Canada, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa and the Dakotas.  Food is served on grounds.  Hook-up time is 11:00 a.m., narrated exhibition starts at 1 p.m.  Free admission.  Free sleigh rides from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city.  After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action.  With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.”

In nineteenth century France, Jean Valjean is released from years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment.
